The I1470 is a top performing Win7 optimized thin and lite business package. Packed with DDR3 4gigs of ram and an ultra low voltage CPU for outstanding battery life. The laptop is not an ultra lite but it is a great lite weight package that does it all with few frills and all the hard working ports and output requirements. Great battery life and enough processing power to do most anything required (but not gaming) this is a hard hitting low cost package with Dell quality and reliability. The omission of wireless N is the biggest mistake here (what were you thinking Dell?).

I've had a Dell Inspiron for a little over a year, and it's been a constant problem. Multiple home visits to replace parts, technicians that have come to fix the machine and end up breaking it; calls to Indian customer service that route me to non-working telephone numbers; any requests to talk to a manager result in being cut-off. The machine has been down for probably a month in the past 12 months. An incredibly poor level of support and hardware.

Now I said the computer is good, however, dealing with the home company is not. No matter what you say or who you talk to you get the telephone suffle and parroted apology for the wait, usually 2 hours. I suggest you shop elsewhere where you can get help.

I recently purchased a Lenovo ThinkPad. The computer itself if adequate but the customer service of the company is horrible. From the phone sales person arguing with us about what they can and can't do to the tech support who told me "I don't have time to deal with you or your problem, call web sales" I am amazed they are in business.

As I said the computer is fine, I just hope it holds up and you don't have to contact the company for any reason. There are a lot of other computers out there that are in the same category as this one, I suggest you look at one of those.

First of all, I am a Mac person. I don't know that much about PCs. The reason for buying this particular model was money. I would have had to pay $1700 for a comparable laptop from Apple. I could not see spending all that money for a computer that was to be mainly used for word processing and web browsing. While made of plastic, this laptop has a solid feel to it. When opened, it doesn't seem like it will split into two pieces or that the screen is flexing. The keyboard is not flimsy and it should be able to take a lot of use. (I've only had the computer for a couple of weeks.) This model comes with Windows 7 and so far I like it. Very easy to set up. Connecting to my network was a breeze. Installing a couple of programs was also easy. Updates are simple. I have had limited experience with Vista and did not care for it. Windows 7 is a much better, user friendly, operating system. As I said previously, I have had this laptop for a short period of time, but so far I have no complaints and no regrets. A lot of computer for a little bit of money.

Powerful, feature rich, laptop small enough to fall into the netbook catagory. Streaming or stored video plays bautifully due to the dual core CPU, good video processor, and high definition screen. Keyboard is large enough to type on normally after some practice. Only faults are the lack of a VGA output, has only HDMI, and the awful fingerprint gathering glossy black finish. Price on Amazon is the lowest I've found for comparable laptop. As always the packing and shipping were excellent.

Very nice computer but I want to share a couple of specifics that others have questioned.
1. This comes with a 6 cell battery so it sticks out on the bottom in back. Very good battery life- about 7 hours yesterday.
2. Windows 7 is the 64-bit version.
3. There is 4 GB Ram.
Much faster than my Dell mini 9 and only slightly larger. So far, I love it.

Probably the most power and performance that you can get in anything under 13", and for less than $500!!! Ultra low voltage processor for incedible speed and effeciency, will definitely get you more battery life. 4GB Ram and 250GB Hard drive is more than most other laptops priced at $899 or better and this is only $499.

the previous review says it only has 2GB of Ram, this is wrong. I also called Amazon and they confirmed it is 4GB, and that the site has been updated to reflect the correct information.

I was looking for a mini, but when I found this, i was blown away with the components i'm getting, and not sacrificing the size i wanted in the mini.

Great computer for its size and price. Bought a Toshiba satellite and the thing keept heating up over and over. So we took it back to the store and decided to purchase this model since my wife already had a vaio(smaller size)she recommended I take a look at Sony's laptops. I love the speed screen size and the fact that it doesn't overheat compare to the toshiba. Only reason I didn't give a 5 stars was that it didn't come with a Blue Ray DVD player. Other than that it works great and the memory is more than enough with all the other little perks like windows 7 are great.

I recently bought the FW 501F and it is a great laptop for home and study projects, solidly built and with superb performance and capacity for gaming and browsing. If you do not mind the lack of BD player, this laptop is a winner, but amazon's prices for the same product are way above than Best Buy ($200+ difference). I already own a sony laptop FW 270J and they are excellent products. I would recommend this sony to anyone, over almost any other brands.

I owned my first ThinkPad in '98. Been sold on the line. Unfortunately, mine finally bit the dust. Since Lenovo took over the division, the ThinkPad line has gone to crap. So... I needed to look for alternative options.

I found that buying a new laptop is a lot like buying new shoes. You can't just buy them online without trying them out. This laptop was an ergonomic fit, not to mention the features. If you're looking for plenty of keyboard space, a large (an awesome) display, 64 bit OS, 4 GB RAM, and a 500GB hard drive... this is it. The HDMI output doesn't suck either.

Regardless, I'm happy with my purchase.

My wife & I bought this laptop from Amazon on November 4 to replace a 10 year old Thinkpad & supplement another 2 year old SONY laptop we own. We are very pleased with the new laptop. It is attractive, easily portable despite its screen size, & appears to have been manufactured with high quality parts & standards, We use it primarily for internet search & email, & are pleased with its speed & ease of use. We have not found Windows 7 to be the great leap forward that most seem to believe, but that is probably because we don't use many of its features........We have rated the new laptop only 3 stars because we believe that many who buy a SONY [at a premium price] expect more in the way of after-the-sale service than they would from most other brands. Unfortunately, that has not been our experience. Recently, our 2 year old SONY laptop suddenly developed wide white lines on its screen which made it unuseable. Although the warranty had expired, we thought it was reasonable to ask SONY if it would help with repairs, particularly after learning that other owners had experienced similar problems. After a series of exasperating & unproductive emails with SONY service, I finally wrote to SONY's CEO. The employee who responded agreed to pay a portion of our $365 repair cost for a replacement screen installed by a local computer shop. That was more than a month ago. We have never received the payment, and our repeated followup inquiries by email, fax & phone have gone unanswered.......We decided to buy the new SONY laptop only after SONY agreed to share our repair costs on the old laptop. Needless to say, had we known that SONY would not follow through on its word, we would not have done so.

I have been using this computer for a week - several hours per day. I have not had any problems. It is FAST. The Index rating, using Windows 7, is 4.2 with most individual ratings close to 6.0. We're talking speed and work capabilities where the max is a 7.9 rating. A similar HP with 500g hard drive and 4g memory only scored 2.0. Wireless works great. Webcam is great. Speakers are better than my desktop!

I purchased this computer as a portable alternative to my 20-inch iMac. I was very close to purchasing the new 13-inch MacBook when I decided to take a quick look at the Windows alternatives. Although I had some moral issues about "switching to the dark side", this computer has certainly alleviated the majority of my concerns. After removing some of the added bloatware, I began using the computer, and felt pretty much at home. Ergonomically, the computer feels like a Mac. The design is very sleek, and it is clear that the placing of every key and button was carefully thought out. In terms of processing power, the 2.2 Ghz of memory, combined with 4 GB of RAM and a 500 GB Hard Drive, makes a fast and very capable machine. The computer also has incredible speakers for a laptop. Although it may not be true surround sound, as the box and stickers on the computer claim, it is as good if not better than the speakers on a MacBook. Overall this is a great computer at a price that is more than 46% less than the cost of a MacBook. Other bonuses include an HDMI port, HD-level graphics, and a Super-Multi Drive (all formats, including Blu-Ray). This is the perfect computer for anybody looking for a powerful computer at a reasonable price.

"No support, low quality disappointment" 2009-12-10

I was very disappointed with the Dell and the Inspiron. First, brand new, the battery life was good for less then 30 minutes! Second, I had no luck getting it to connect wirelessly. I could not get a Dell service rep on the phone, only the sales people, people who consistently told me to use the internet to access Dell's support staff. But when using the internet, I was not able to get a real person. It was clear that when I would submit questions, a computer looked for key words in my question and generated a (useless) response accordingly. I finally resolved the problem by seeking advice OUTSIDE of Dell -- but it took many months of great frustration to get the wireless machine to connect wirelessly. NEVER AGAIN DELL.

I even bought the 3 year warranty from Dell but they just refuse to fix the problem, it brakes all the time and with different things. With a Mac I will just need to go to the store and never mail it away.

I bought mine from Dell with a little better price but I buy a lot from Amazon and find the reviews helpful. I have a Dell XPS which is a high end Dell and running my benchmarks it is really preforms quite well considering the cost. Like one lady said the sound is better than the xps, maybe the best I have heard on a laptop. The screen is about a 1/2 inch shorter from top to bottom but about 1/2 inch wider. I thought I would be to skinny like the new 16:9 but its fine. The screen is excellent in sharpness and color very good. The intel graphics card is ample for video and is ok for older games. I am not a gamer high end graphics are not a issue.It does have 32mb of its own ram and the rest is shared. Dell has finally installed a app to back up the system for restore like other oems. The roxio is pretty much worthless and you need something else for the normal burning that windows 7 cant do.Mine came with 15 months of mcafee and I uninstalled it as soon as I got it. It is a resource hog and will slow your computer to a crawl at times. Microsoft finally has a free security essentials app instead of having to pay someone else to protect your computer and I use it as well as Avira anti virus (free)from time to time. I am going on 4 hours battery now and the battery says I have 50 minutes left. It only has 1 led for power and low battery, I dont care for this and prefer a full set of leds to let me know whats going on. Software indicators work but or a cost cutting feature.
My only problem is the space bar feels loose at times and hinges for the monitor are quite stiff and hope they don't break.
I have had my share of problems with Dell and have sent back 2 different computers. To be honest this is the best computer for the money I have had. Only time will tell if it holds up or not but I am quite happy with it. Charging $40.00 for a different color (on there website)lid is a rip off to me, but each to their own. Mine came with 3gb ram and I added a 2gb chip for 4gb I had and it does make a difference. I would keep an eye on the price as they do change. One of the main reasons I bought this is because I despised vista, but I have had no problems with 7. My wifi and networked worked with no problems.
Update: a nice feature that might confuse some people is that the fn key need not be pushed to use the media keys and the sound volume and brightness. There is a bios setting that can change the priority of the fn key to media first or number keys (like f1 f2 f3) first) It is set by default to media first. I have never seen this before but I like this feature.

The Dell 1545 Gloss Black laptop has one technological advance that you may not have heard of, and that is the gloss black computer case, and the equally advanced matte black top. Several years ago, scientists discovered a way to make a plastic that was impossible to touch without creating glaring fingerprints. Nobody knew what to do with this material until Dell decided to make a computer out of it. When you first open the laptop, the gloss black finish is very handsome. However, once it is touched, it gathers fingerprints and smudges like no other material I've ever seen. So that is one caveat for the user: Do not touch the computer anywhere but on the keyboard so that it will stay clean. Not even the mouse pad. This can be challenging, but by holding your palms above the keyboard and getting an extensive routine of surgeries to realign your wrists, you can type on the computer without creating a mass of greasy fingerprints and smudges.

The case top also has the amazing ability to not only capture fingerprints, but to keep them despite vigorous polishing. I am impressed with this new material, which is I believe called "EternalPrint", which was apparently designed to capture the prints of criminals permanently on a plastic medium. Do not commit any crimes while using the Dell 1545, for God's sake, because the law will need only to confiscate your laptop to get all the fingerprints they need.

I've purchased nothing but Dell for years but I'll never buy another computer from them. I shipped it in for repair. I told the Dell rep and wrote it three different places that the repaired machine had to be sent to my winter address in Florida. But it was nonetheless sent to the wrong address. It took me an hour and a half and fourteen different people to get to the right person. That person emailed Fed Ex and told them to pick up the package and ship it to the right address. But Fed Ex says there is literally only one person at dell who can authorize a package to be sent to another address. So after a week my computer still sits at the wrong address. I don't have the time to deal with such incompetency.

"Outstanding Laptop for the money!" 2009-12-12

Most people before have said it all so I'll keep this basic and easy to read.

1) ASUS is a top notch maker of motherboards etc. So it's no wonder that recent statistics on laptop reliability yielded ASUS as being the most reliable laptop maker based on number of returns or repairs. ASUS also offers a fantastic warranty on this product.

2) You get a great laptop for the money. I had initially purchased a Dell Inspiron model laptop at Walmart but for the same money I got a better processor, an LED screen, a number pad, better warranty and the ASUS Ice Cool feature. The better processor is what I was really after and the LED screen.

I highly recommend this laptop to anyone who doesn't want to spend a fortune. This laptop is a solid performer and a good bang for the buck. It's fast, runs smooth and looks good if cosmetics are important.

This is my first laptop. I did a lot of research before purchasing it. I spent hours at Best Buy and Costco talking with the sales people and trying out the display laptops; and researched many on-line retailers and pc review websites checking prices and reviews for different laptops. I chose this one because the t6600 dual core processor was rated well amongst the lower priced laptop processors. I also liked that it has 4gb memory and a 500gb hard drive which is more than most of the lower priced laptops. I wanted windows 7 since I am coming from XP on my old tower pc and have heard Vista is not well liked. It comes with a really good warranty 2 years plus 1 yr accidental for free, and they pay the shipping if you need to send it in. While doing my research most of the sales people and reviews said that ASUS is top quality and have the best customer service. Amazon.com had a great price on this item. I got it for $599. I was a taking a bit of a chance buying it from Amazon because I couldn't see it and try it out before I bought it, and no one had reviewed it yet since it was a new model. I am glad I took a chance on it.
I am very happy with this laptop. It is really comfortable to type on. A nice size - small enough to carry and big enough to easily read the screen and type. I like the number pad on the keyboard. I really like the cool smooth plastic hand rest. It is quiet, comfortable, and cool. It was easy to set up right out of the box, and I am not a techie. It walked me through everything I needed to get up and running. I called ASUS tech support twice - once to ask if I should charge the battery for a specific length of time before using it (they said yes, the first battery charge should be 8 hours), and also a question about getting rid of some of the software that was preloaded that I didn't want. They were very friendly and helpful. They have 24/7 tech support which is really nice. I had to wait a little while on hold when I called in the evening but my daytime call was answered fairly fast. I appreciate that even though I was asking very basic questions and I know they are busy, they were friendly and happy to help me.
I haven't tried it out on the internet or watched any videos as I am still adding and removing programs and setting it up, but so far I really like this laptop. I'll report more once I've had a chance to really see how it handles. At this point I am very happy with it!

My Review of ASUS laptop and experience with ASUS customer service :

Well, I guess I am eating my words...ASUS rated at the top for reliability and customer service.

Mine arrived and had serious issues. Customer support was a joke...14 hours on the phone with these guys and all I can say if if they are the best, I dont want to experience the worst.....

Wont go in to too many details as I am pressed for time....Needless to say, this has already been returned to amzn and amzn saved the day for me.

The unit seemed very cheaply made...dvd drive was dead....power cord was sparking when plugged in...lousy viewing angles....no backlit keyboard makes this BLACK keyboard impossible to see.....got a zillion error messages..one after another after another....ASUS Customer service was clueless...I think I knew more about things then they did..plus, they had me doing full system recoveries, promising me if we get disconnected they will call me right back...got disconnected 4 times and nobody ever called me back...The next rep would simply say the last rep was wrong....What nightmare...the computer was junk and the customer service was a serious joke.

I am eating my words now as I saw ASUS rated very highly and spoke up about it.....but I will never go near an asus product ever again. Even without the many issues, I was not impressed with anything about it..keyboard hard to navigate...touch pad was a joke and a real pain....the thing just plain sucked in every possible way I can think of.....But like any electronic device, you roll the dice and take your chances...I am very sorry I rolled the dice with ASUS but very thankful I bought from AMZN as they do a great job of resolving things for customers which is why I will continue to give AMZN my business....

This is an excellent budget notebook with a 15.6" screen that's only 5.8 lbs. We just bought two for my wife's parents (don't buy it for 3D games, as it has integrated graphics, but office apps and browsing are fine).

Pros:
- T6600 Core 2 Duo (not the Pentium Dual Core, lower-end C2D, ULVs, or Atoms)
- Relatively quiet and light (5.8 lbs)
- Big hard drive (mine had a Seagate Momentus 5400.6)
- Screen has relatively good viewing angles, horizontal and vertical
- Pretty good fit and finish for a plastic casing (although there's a somewhat flimsy lid that is separate from the battery)
- 4 USB ports
- VGA output is crisp (to 1280x1024, didn't try bigger)
- I haven't noticed the palm rest getting warm at all ... but you're not playing 3D games are you?
- You can select one language during boot up that's set forever, that is, until you restore from the recovery partition. The first time I chose Traditional Chinese. Works great. I restored (press F9 at boot) and selected English. Works great, didn't need to put in DVDs, and all the software reappeared. I even choose the option to use one C:\ drive, instead of the default 60% C:, 40% D:.
- Opening the notebook casing is easy -- find the "electronic - hardware" version (not the "hardware" version) of the manual on Asus's web site (search for K50, then click Download, then Manuals). The hard drive is easily replaceable. Relatively clean layout so I can imagine blowing out dust bunnies will be easy.
- Includes Office Home & Student 2007 (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/OneNote) pre-installed WITHOUT a product key. It asks for that so I assume you just punch one in and everything's great.
- Includes a trial of Trend Micro Internet Security for antivirus protection pre-installed.
- Aside from the Asus utilities, relatively little bloatware
- Turned off all of Win7's eye candy. Don't need that.
- 1-year international warranty. Includes accident protection (register for this within 60 days on the Asus U.S. web site, and it's non-transferrable from the original owner). No paperwork on extending the warranty. We're trying our luck in case the computer breaks down in < 1 year and they give us a hassle about it being a gift and the warranty being valid.

Cons:
- A bit fat
- The screen has a blue tinge, just like with Asus's TN LCD displays. You get used to it though.
- Glossy screen (reflections), not matte
- Two-finger touchpad scrolling is too sensitive out of the box with Firefox (although it might be okay with IE). Turning it all the way down, it's fine.
- The numeric keypad uses smaller keys! Difficult to use for folks with big hands.
- The arrow keys don't have space around them (and actually the right arrow key is bumped into the numeric keypad section), so you need to learn where they are.
- The keyboard and touchpad are on the left side of the computer because of the numeric keypad. You quickly get used to that, though, so no biggie.
- The touchpad buttons require some pressure to click, but you get used to it.
- 4 GB maximum memory. Just 1 user-accessible memory slot which contains 2GB. No biggie.
- No DVI. No port replicator option with that option.
- No Bluetooth, FireWire, eSATA, ExpressCard/PCI Express slot
- Integrated Intel graphics (not for 3D gaming, but great for 2D apps)
- The T6600 doesn't support Windows 7's XP compatibility mode. Most of the Win7 Home Premium notebooks I've seen have a CPU which doesn't support XP mode. Only Win7 Professional and higher supports VT mode anyway. Does XP mode matter at all? I have no idea. Search the Internet for that.
- It doesn't wake up when you open the lid. It does sleep when you close the lid. Yes, I checked the settings. Tip: Change the close-lid behavior to Sleep instead of Hibernate for a faster sleep, but battery will drain faster.

Edit 12/10/09:

A few cons I've noticed:
- The two speakers are on the bottom of the notebook, at the front lip. You really need a hard surface to reflect the sound up to you. Definitely below average compared with other notebooks IMO.
- The Page Up / Down keys are above the numeric keypad -- way out of reach. It's an incredible hassle with Internet browsing.
- Remember how I wrote the graphics are good enough for 2D? If you watch a Yahoo! music video in full screen mode, that sucker will tear during fast motion. It's fine at the normal zoom level and with computers with discrete graphics.
- I'm always accidentally hitting the DVD eject button. Other notebooks I've used recess this button.

"Slow, Slow, Slow" 2009-12-14

Per other reviewer, it's true, you cannot officially change the desktop background on Windows 7 Starter. There are some workarounds on the 'net. I have not tried them, though.

Another reviewer said this laptop has bluetooth. That is false; check the specs at samsung's website. It does have a VGA output and 3XUSB 2.0.

Screen is an annoying 1024X600 but that is pretty common in these. There is, with new drivers from Samsung, a way to cheat out at 1024X768. It's still 600 high but with compressing some pixels together you can see more of what's going on. It looks too silly to normally use but is good if you need to access a large dialog box for an application. Screen is crisp.

Battery life is nice. I've only had this two days but would say its estimate of 5 hours or so is pretty fair when surfing the net wirelessly. 5.8 is probably stretching it.

Of note it seems that the screen can be made really bright--even on battery. I've often lamented my other laptop's unwillingness to go bright to plugged-in levels on battery (yes, it eats more power), but this goes sharp.

Keyboard is decent. My hands are normal man size (?) but I'm getting used to it. Backspace could be larger.

Single speaker is pretty terrible. Not loud, don't think about listening to music on it. It has a headphone jack, though.

Restore feature is nice addition. I have not tried it out, though.

This gets three stars because it is capital S.L.O.W. Now, granted apparently these 1.6 ghz CPUs are more like a Celeron of half the mhz or a bit more, but I just found in general using this on Windows Starter 7 to be unenjoyable. Everything lags. Loading Internet Explorer takes too long. Google Chrome takes too long. Opening new tabs within the browser is quick but then loading each one is slow. Scrolling skips from time to time as something else thinks about loading. Go into control panel and watch the progress bar. Literally everything entails either a progress bar or that interminable spinning blue circle because nothing is quick, nothing is snappy. I know this isn't a gaming PC. I haven't used enough other netbooks to note whether this is slower. My guess is it probably isn't, but I am actually returning mine after just a couple of days. No way I can tolerate this for a couple of years. Youtube works. Youtube HD absolutely not (single digit frame rate).

Here is my advice: if you do a lot of travelling and need small size and battery life this is probably a good bet. Just realize its performance is not great. It's amazing what can be built into something so small for the cost, but still. If you are looking for a computer to kick around the house and live between the kitchen and the den spend an extra $100 and get an entry-level laptop. It will obliterate this in terms of performance. Larger screen, more HD space, magnitudes (literally) more power and memory.

Love this netbook. Had to return the first one I got because it had a sound problem. Don't like the white interior as much as my original slate blue one but overall its great. Much faster after I removed McAffee and installed AVG free. Now I need an external optical drive.

I had the black version of this exact model.

Liked the matte finish - most netbooks have shiny frame around screen and often shiny plastic around keyboard and fingerprint-attracting exterior. Liked the low fan noise - some netbooks are like a miniature chainsaw in a quiet room. The keys have nice feel and have good tactile feedback.

Had to return it to store because I couldn't type reliably on the keyboard.

The small key size wasn't the issue.

Problem was that I kept hitting the "=" key instead of the Backspace key.

I compared it side-by-side with other netbooks in the store and discovered that - in order to make the keys very slightly larger than the keys on other netbooks - Samsung made some of the keys a lot smaller, including the Backspace key.

With standard keyboards - and most netbooks - the left edge of the backspace key is centered above the "}]" key.

On this machine, the Backspace key is not centered, it is quite a bit over to the right. The keys in the top row of the keyboard are not centered over the next row down - as with most netbooks, notebooks, and full-size keyboards.

Same issue with other normally big keys - but the Backspace key was the big problem for me.

If you don't use the backspace key, or if you use only this netbook and not other keyboards (so you don't have to switch keyboards all the time) - then this is a fine unit.

"Great but not perfect" 2009-12-05

Would buy it again and recommend to a friend. Strengths are portablility, easy wireless connection, good keyboard, USB connections, scrolling touchpad, and price. Weaknesses are horrible weak speaker and a battery life of only about 4 hours with screen brightness set to a comfortable level. All netbooks share the limitations of small screen size, limited memory, and lack of optical drive. If those factors are not acceptable, size up to a low end light weight laptop. I can live with them to gain the portabliliy and price benefits. Among netbooks I bought this one due to strong reviews from many sources regarding Samsung quality and performance and, among the Samsung models, the lowest price. I'm happy with it and use earphones.

I had been looking at the "netbook" market for a while and with all the different brands and sizes out there it took me a while. My main factors were price, size (keyboard and screen), and battery life. I feel that a lot of the netbooks out there are just cheap looking, like a little kids toy almost. The N130 is solid, yet light, boasts a 90%ish sized keyboard (works great with my big fingers) and has a 5/5 hours of battery life, real world. It comes with Windows 7 Started Edition which is great but my only complaint with Started is you can't change the desktop background... How dumb is that? Video isn't the greatest on here either, YouTube is OK, but video files are slightly choppy especially at full screen. But hey this is a netbook and is built for browsing the web, and for that it is amazing. I was considering buying a full size notebook and decided on this netbook and I couldn't be happier. It's a perfect fit at a perfect price.

On a side note, I got mine running Mac OSX and man does it fly with OSX installed. Definitely worth it if you're tech savvy enough.

I had looked for a while for a laptop after my desktop died and the Toshiba L505 series was one of my finalists. It has not disappointed me and at the price ($499) for the specs (4g ram/500g HD)it has been the a great machine.

One plus with this machine is that it came with very little "bloatware"- Norton trial, Microsoft Office 2007 trial, and some games. So, if you buy this machine at a "Box Store" don't let them con you into optimization for an extra $50-$100, you can do recovery disks and bloatware removal on your own.

The only downside is I really wish it had an HDMI output for streaming movies to my flat screen from places like Amazon, but the VGA or USB output will have to suffice.

No HDMI is only reason I didn't give it 5 stars, other machines in this range offer it and hope Toshiba will soon.

This is my second laptop and my first was Toshiba too. The first one stayed with me for Four years and did start to die.

So I decided to purchase this during the Black Friday Deal and the price was seducing! I got it a few days ago and wow!

This laptop is worth every dollar! The only thing you might consider before purchasing is that the battery doesn't stay too long when unplugged. If you need it for home use then this is it and at an amazing price!

This is my first laptop. I was shopping on black Friday, have heard great things about Toshiba laptops, and they had this one for 499.00 so I said what the heck and got it! I also ordered a wireless router. A few days later the box came and I could not be happier. The best thing about is the the display. It is very sharp, bright, and clear. The keyboard is nice as well. I can't stand the touchpad, but I think that's a common problem with all laptops. I immediately went out and bought a wireless mouse to use with it. The sound is not great either, but again, I think that's common with laptops. It seems pretty sturdy, and runs cool. It does not get hot, and the fan doesn't even run when the ambient temp is around 65 degrees. Setting up the wireless network was a breeze, and when I started up the laptop, it found the signal immediately, and never loses it. The computer is very fast and I have not had one problem. Very satisfied..and wow what a great price I got--this is a well equipped laptop.

We've had the laptop for about 2 weeks now. We purchased it as a second for my husband so it's only been on occasionally. Wireless network setup was quick and without a hitch.

We love that it has a full number pad.

One printer on our network (HP lasterjet) was not plug and play, we have to find drivers for it. We have enough printers that were plug and play to accept missing that one.

There is only an SD card slot. We needed an xd slot, a complaint for hubby, but since its a backup for trips and such he'll live with an adapter.

Since we rarely have issues with computers in the first few months of use, I'll update if anything significant occurs.

I do recommend the computer at this point.
